About this treatment

Tooth whitening works by using bleaching agents—usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide—to break down and remove stains from the enamel and sometimes even the dentin (the layer beneath the enamel). These chemicals oxidise pigmented molecules, making the teeth appear whiter and brighter.

After a thorough examination of your teeth and gums to ensure you are fit for the procedure, digital scans of your teeth are taken for custom made trays to be made to house the whitening gels safely.

After a few weeks your trays will be fitted and checked for a good seal. You will be shown how to use the whitening gels and given instructions on how to load your trays with the bleach and how long to wear them for.

After 3 weeks of home use, you will be invited back to our clinic for photographs.

At Geans Clinic we offer the Enlighten Whitening system. In our experience we have achieved the best results using this system for many years and have plenty of very happy patients! The reason we use this system is because:

Guarantee – Enlighten guarantees patients will achieve the most natural whitest shade, known as B1. If you follow the instructions carefully and still do not achieve this shade, you will be assessed by us and certain modifications and extra tubes of bleach will be given until the shade is achieved.
No need to change your lifestyle – If your love your coffee or red wine, no need to stop! The whitening system still works despite dietary habits.
Long lasting results – If you follow the at-home maintenance regime correctly, your bright smile will last indefinitely

FAQs

How white will my teeth get?

If used correctly all teeth will whiten up to 16 shades lighter.

Will my teeth look too white?

No, natural teeth rarely look too white. Sometimes very white crowns can look wrong because they are made of porcelain.

Will my crowns, veneers or fillings change colour?

No, sometimes you may need to change some of these after whitening.

Is there pain or discomfort?

You may get some sensitivity; however, we will give you easy-to-use desensitisers to take home, which will work immediately. You will also receive a tube of Enlighten Serum toothpaste to brush with, while you wait for your trays, this also helps with sensitivity.

How long will my teeth stay white for?

Results can last indefinitely with some very simple maintenance, wearing the trays for 1 night every other month. Regular hygienists and dental visits can help remove stains and keep your teeth bright.

Is tooth whitening safe?

Completely, the materials used to whiten your teeth have been used in dentistry for
over 100 years.
