Geans Clinic - About Crowns
About this treatment

The process for getting a crown typically involves two visits to your dentist:

1. First Visit – Preparation

During your first visit, the dentist will thoroughly examine and prepare the tooth. This includes shaping the tooth and removing any decayed portions to make room for the crown.

2. 3D Scanning

Say goodbye to gunky dental impressions! Our state of the art 3D scanner is used to scan the tooth. The images are sent directly to the laboratory where a 3D model is printed and the crown can be digitally designed with high precision. A temporary crown is placed on the tooth to protect it while the permanent crown is being made.

3. Second Visit – Placement

Once the permanent crown is ready, you will return to the practice to have it placed. The dentist will ensure that the crown fits properly and matches the colour and shape of your surrounding teeth. Any necessary adjustments are made, and the crown is permanently bonded in place.

FAQs

When a tooth is too damaged to support a filling, a crown provides a protective covering. Crowns can also improve the appearance of heavily filled or discoloured teeth. A crown is often placed over a tooth that has undergone a root canal to restore strength and function.

Crowns can be made from several materials, depending on your needs and the location of the tooth:

Porcelain or ceramic crowns

These are often used for front teeth due to their natural appearance. They blend well with the colour of the surrounding teeth.

Gold crowns

These are made from alloys of gold or other metals. Metal crowns are extremely durable and are often used for back teeth where the crown is less visible.

Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns

These combine the strength of metal with the aesthetics of porcelain, making them a popular choice for back teeth.

Crowns can last for many years if taken care of properly, but it’s important to remember that the underlying tooth can still be vulnerable to decay and gum disease. Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene (such as brushing and flossing) are essential to maintain the health of both your crown and the underlying tooth.

We as a family have been coming to this dentist since it opened. I cannot stress how professional and caring they all are. I myself am a nervous patient and they put me at ease every single time. My son has unfortunately had to have root canal treatment not something anyone likes to endure but they were so careful, gentle and professional that my son wasn’t worried, scared or in pain (he fell asleep). I love this dentist, and recommend you to everyone. Sabrina is AMAZING, such a lovely person.

Thank you Sabrina for not hurting me and making me feel at ease! I’m scared to death of the dentist!

Both my wife and I have been in to see you for a few different treatments and on every single occasion we have left feeling happy and confident with the work you have done. My wife was extremely nervous about having any work done but after having the first consultation with you she came away and immediately felt relaxed about seeing you again to begin the treatments. After the experience we’ve had with you I no longer dread having to book in for a check up!

Will you please pass my thanks to Shrina Nathwani for her wonderful, professional care when I had a tooth extracted… I had been dreading the procedure but Shrina made me feel so relaxed and I must say I felt no discomfort. Shrina and the dental nurse who assisted her are a definite asset to your practice.

Anon 1, October 2018

I had excellent service from Shrina, not even any swelling or bleeding after the extraction last week. It’s just such a relief to have this sorted. Thank you for your prompt action.
