The ageing process also causes the slowdown of collagen and elastin production in the skin. About this treatment

Botulinum Toxin Type A, also known by its trade name Botox®, is a pure protein that has been used since 1978 for a variety of medical conditions and to temporarily relax muscles in the face and around the eyes.

It is used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in dramatically smoother, younger-looking skin. It works by temporarily rendering the muscles in the treatment area inactive – a process that is always reversible. The effects, quite honestly, are outstanding, which is why this is the most popular cosmetic treatment in the world.

Botulinum Toxin Type A is administered through injections that are absolutely safe and nearly painless. The side effects are very rare. As an anti-wrinkle treatment, the results start showing within 48-72 hours, but it takes 14 days for the full effects to show. This effect typically lasts for 4 months and varies depending on the person as well as the area treated.

Patients often get frown lines between eyebrows, crow’s feet, smile lines around the eyes and horizontal forehead lines treated. However, Sabrina is best qualified to advise you on your recommended areas of treatment after a thorough evaluation. She prefers the less-is-more approach, ensuring that the results are naturally noticeable.

Which areas can be treated?

Most of our clients request treatment on one or more of these facial areas:

Frown lines between the eyebrows
Crow’s feet or smile lines around the eyes
Horizontal forehead lines

Other areas that can be treated with botulinum toxin include the lower face and neck. It is also a very successful treatment for excessive under arm sweating.

How does the treatment work?

Using a tiny needle, small quantities of the protein are injected into the muscles under the skin where wrinkles are most troublesome.

The protein temporarily blocks the nerve signal to the muscle, which in turn relaxes the muscles. The nerve that is in place at the time of treatment shrivels away due to lack of stimulation, and a new nerve will grow in its place, and this is when the movement returns.

How soon will I see the effects and how long do the effects last?

The initial effects of the treatment start to be felt usually within 48 and 72 hours, but it takes up to 14 days to see the full effect.

The effects of the treatment usually last between 3 and 4 months, this will vary from person to person.

Deep lines can soften and may take several treatments until the optimum result is seen. Fine lines can almost disappear.

To frequent or excessive dosing of Botulinum toxin may increase the risk of antibodies in the blood which may lead to failure of treatment. With this in mind and the recommended license guidelines, botulinum toxin treatments are carried out after 12 weeks.

You should have further treatment when the muscle activity returns but before the lines and wrinkles have had a chance to re-establish more.

Avoiding habits like teeth grinding or biting hard objects can help extend their lifespan.
