Geans Clinic - EMS Airflow About
About this treatment

Airflow uses a controlled stream of warm water, air, and a specially formulated powder (usually sodium bicarbonate or erythritol) to gently blast away plaque, stains, and bacteria from the tooth surface.

The use of Airflow is gentle and comfortable and is a non-invasive and often painless alternative to traditional scaling, especially for those with sensitive teeth.

The Airflow is also effective for stain removal. It can remove surface stains caused by coffee, tea, tobacco, and certain foods.

The Airflow is also used for biofilm removal, a sticky layer of bacteria that can lead to gum disease and tooth decay.

Studies have shown the use of the EMS Airflow causes improved gum health by effectively removing plaque and bacteria, it helps prevent and manage gum disease.

Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)

Our hygienists have been trained in the GBT approach, which involves a comprehensive assessment, biofilm identification with a disclosing agent, and targeted removal of biofilm, stains, and calculus.

The Airflow can safely and effectively be used on teeth, dental implants, soft tissue, bridges, veneers, and orthodontic appliances.

FAQs

Airflow teeth cleaning is generally considered a painless and comfortable procedure. It uses a gentle spray of air, water, and a fine powder to remove plaque and stains, without the use of scraping instruments. While most people find it pain-free, those with sensitive teeth might experience some slight discomfort, but it’s usually significantly less than with traditional cleaning methods.

between 30-45 minutes depending on how long the hygienist feels will benefit you on a case by case basis. The interval between visits can be from 3-6 months dependent on individual risk factors.

Airflow teeth cleaning is generally considered superior to traditional scale and polish for many patients. It’s a less abrasive, more comfortable, and often faster method for removing plaque and surface stains, while also being more effective at reaching difficult areas. However, it’s important to note that Airflow may not completely replace the need for scaling, especially in cases of heavy tartar buildup.

Yes! Unlike traditional dental cleaning methods, EMS Airflow is much gentler on the teeth and gums, making it ideal for people with sensitive teeth. The warm water and fine powder provide a comfortable experience without the need for harsh scraping or polishing.

At Geans Clinic, our experienced hygienists have been offering high-quality airflow dental hygiene treatments using the latest state-of-the-art EMS Airflow technology for over 10 years! We as a family have been coming to this dentist since it opened. I cannot stress how professional and caring they all are. I myself am a nervous patient and they put me at ease every single time. My son has unfortunately had to have root canal treatment not something anyone likes to endure but they were so careful, gentle and professional that my son wasn’t worried, scared or in pain (he fell asleep). I love this dentist, and recommend you to everyone. Sabrina is AMAZING, such a lovely person.

Both my wife and I have been in to see you for a few different treatments and on every single occasion we have left feeling happy and confident with the work you have done. My wife was extremely nervous about having any work done but after having the first consultation with you she came away and immediately felt relaxed about seeing you again to begin the treatments. After the experience we’ve had with you I no longer dread having to book in for a check up!

Will you please pass my thanks to Shrina Nathwani for her wonderful, professional care when I had a tooth extracted… I had been dreading the procedure but Shrina made me feel so relaxed and I must say I felt no discomfort. Shrina and the dental nurse who assisted her are a definite asset to your practice.

Anon 1, October 2018

I had excellent service from Shrina, not even any swelling or bleeding after the extraction last week. It’s just such a relief to have this sorted. Thank you for your prompt action.
