About this treatment

The CBCT scanner uses a cone-shaped X-ray beam to capture hundreds of images in just a few seconds.

You may be asked to remove jewelry or metal objects near your head. Your dentist will demonstrate how the scan is performed after which you will be invited to stand in position within the scanner as it rotates around your head. The scan takes 20 to 40 seconds. It’s painless, non-invasive, and doesn’t require any preparation. The images are combined into a 3D model on a computer screen, which your dentist will review and explain any relevant findings. There’s no need to go into a tunnel or enclosed machine—you stay upright and comfortable.

Why would I need a CBCT scan?

Your dentist or specialist might suggest a CBCT scan to:

Get a better look at your teeth, jawbone, or sinuses.
Plan for dental implants, root canals or assessment of impacted teeth.

What’s it like to get one?

You’ll stand or sit still while the machine slowly moves around your head.
The scan is quick and painless.
There’s no need to go inside a big machine like with a hospital CT scan.

Is it safe?

Yes. A CBCT scan does use radiation, however it is much less than a full medical CT scan. Your dentist will only recommend it when necessary to give you the best care.
