At Geans Clinic we believe prevention is better than cure and prevention isn’t just about cleanings—it’s about building strong, healthy habits and catching small issues before they become big ones.
Dental prevention is all about taking proactive steps to keep your teeth, gums, and mouth healthy—avoiding problems like tooth decay, gum disease, and dental emergencies before they arise. It’s the foundation of lifelong oral health and one of the most cost-effective ways to care for your smile.

Our hygienists will recommend regular sessions alongside your regular dental check ups usually every 6 months (or more frequently if advised). This ensures early detection of decay, gum issues, tooth wear, or oral cancer.
At Geans Clinic, our Professional Hygiene Appointments include a detailed charting of your gum health, plaque biofilm levels and bleeding score which will predict your risk of future disease. They will then proceed to remove of plaque and tartar that brushing can’t reach. At Geans Clininc our patient are fortunate to receive state of the art Guided Biofilm Therappy using our Airflow machine which not only polishes to prevent staining and smooth tooth surfaces, but breaks up the sticky biofilm that causes gum disease and implant failure.
Each patient will receive tailored oral hygiene advice and provided with a home care plan based on their needs.
Our hygienist can also administer Fluoride Treatments which strengthen enamel and prevent cavities. This is especially beneficial for children or those at high risk of decay such as patients with dry mouth, or certain medications.
Thank you to our patients for allowing us to share their amazing outcomes at Geans Clinic.
We recommend hygienist appointments as a way to deliver prevention for all ages.
In children this helps them develop healthy habits, monitor growth, apply fluoride.
In teens, the hygienist can support through braces and changing diets and oral hygiene habits. This age is also crucial in picking up rare, herediate forms of gum disease which can be aggressive and cause early tooth loss. Our dentists and hygienists will start measuring the gum pockets in teens to pick up signs of this early.
In adults the hygienist helps to maintain gum health, manage stress-related issues like grinding.
In older adults our hygienists help monitor restorations, support the oral cavity from things like dry mouth, and problems caused by some medical conditions. They also help support gum health when dexterity or vision issues can prevent patients in being able to properly care for their own mouths.
Between 30-45 minutes depending on how long the hygienist feels will benefit you on a case by case basis
Following your consultation, you will be provided with a written estimate of costs for treatment. This is based on the materials or products to be used, and complexity of the procedure. You will always be given clear transparent costs and there will never be any hidden costs or surprise bills!
